Twenty One Pilots (stylized as twenty | one | pilots) is the eponymous debut studio album by American band Twenty One Pilots. It was self-released on December 29, 2009. It is the only album to feature the band's original line-up, due to Chris Salih and Nick Thomas leaving the band in 2011.
The album has sold 115,000 copies in the [1] and peaked at number 139 on the U.S. Billboard 200 on January 13, 2017.[2] The album cover art was designed by John Rettstatt, a friend of Joseph.[3]
Recording[]
The album was recorded in the homemade recording studio in the basement of the house that Tyler Joseph, Nick Thomas, Chris Salih, and Nick's brother were staying in at the time. The lyrics of the album were mainly written by Joseph, with only small changes being suggested by the other two members, while the music was written and arranged by all three.[4]
Release[]
Twenty One Pilots was released on December 29, 2009, digitally and on CD. The album also featured as the second disc on a limited promotional 2-CD version of their second album, Regional at Best.[5]
In 2012, the new line-up of Twenty One Pilots signed to Fueled by Ramen. After the signing of the band, the physical CD was discontinued, although digital copies were not.
